Spring Potluck

ADC Potluck
Saturday, April 4th
5:30pm
Bill and Betsy Douglas have graciously offered to be our potluck hosts!
4835 E. Cheryl Drive
Paradise Valley, AZ
85253

They promise a friendly atmosphere and weather permitting an outdoor fire as well. So practice up on your favorite campfire songs! As I mentioned earlier, there should be plenty of us with experiences and/or latest projects to share and why not do it over a plate heaping with yummy food (and desserts)! Anything goes, such as tips from workshops, Yuma Symposium stories, treasures from the Tucson Gem Show, your own work or even a hilarious yet non-offensive joke if you have one… this may be preferred over that song you were thinking about sharing.

Anyway here is the breakdown if you are looking for some direction as to what to bring:
Last names beginning with A-J should bring a main dish; K-R should bring a salad and S-Z should bring desserts.

Tour the Mesa Arts Center!

Come join us for a private tour of the Mesa Arts Center!
1 East Main Street, Mesa, AZ 85211
Friday, April 17th
6:00 - 8:00 pm

Please be there 10 to 15 minutes early as the tour will start exactly on time!
Many of us have attended gallery openings at the Mesa Arts Center, but what else do we know about the facility? Well let's find out what it's all about and the variety of services and opportunities that it offers our community... and tour the galleries as well! We will get a chance to see the studios and theaters although, due to performance schedules we will be unable to visit each of the four theaters, but will have access to the theater that is not in use at the time of our tour.
You may park in the south parking lot located off of 1st Avenue, just east of Center Street. Please meet outside at the south entrance of the theaters, which can be accessed from this parking lot.

The tour guides will meet us10-15 minutes prior to our tour start time to let us into the theaters. Our tour will begin promptly at the start time and will last approximately 1-½ hours. After touring the facilities a docent will be available to take us through the galleries that will be featuring a lot of ceramic work due to the NCECA conference that is happening in our area that has inspired many exhibitions and events scattered throughout the valley!
Note: All tour and gallery fees will be waived/covered by ADC.

Thanks to Ingrid Donaldson and The Blink Gallery!

Thanks go out to Blink gallery owner Ingrid Donaldson for talking with us on January 16th. She covered many things including tips on approaching and selecting a gallery to carry your work, as well as things to look for in a consignment contract. Importance was placed on professionalism in presentation and researching your target to know what type of work they carry and who their audience is. She also shared what is looked for in the artists/artwork carried at their gallery and the reasoning behind their approach to the rotation of the work. Other things mentioned addressed issues of pricing and whether galleries require exclusivity or not.

The Blink Gallery has an open call for new artists. For more information go to http://www.theblinkgallery.com/

Kerr Grabowski Workshop

Announcing a 3-day workshop opportunity. If you have any questions, contact Marla Hattabaugh at mchquilts@cox.net.

Kerr Grabowski
3 Days of Design and Deconstructed Screen Printing
February 14-16
Location: Marla Hattabaugh Studio
6339 E. Mitchell Dr.Scottsdale, AZ 85251
Cost: $250 for three days

If you want to know why your pieces do or do not work, to be able to simplify and make work stronger—
along with Deconstructed Screen Printing, this is the workshop for you!

We begin with a very quick, fun design exercise to “realign” our brains,
followed by a Powerpoint show of painting/drawings with images grouped according to the design principle used.
We will discuss images as they are shown.
This is exciting and revealing as it visually simplifies and makes very obvious which design principles the artist used
and how universal the usage is. If time allows, we will do another quick design exercise.

After lunch we begin deconstructed printing creating a series of prints based on chosen or assigned principle of design.

On day 2 we will do design/composition exercise and discussions until lunch.
After lunch we will print based on designs created.
On the last day we will print all day with a break for discussion of work being done.

Kerr will provide extensive handouts on deconstructed printing and design.
This is a fun, creative and enlightening workshop---guaranteed to send you home excited and chock full of ideas/images
to work with. (along with knowledge of deconstructed screen printing)
